The picnic area will be closed this Saturday, June 25th for a private event. The zoo will be open for normal business hours 9am-6pm with last admission at 5pm.

What is a mammal?

Mammals are vertebrate animals that are endothermic, have hair on their bodies, and produce milk to feed their babies. Many mammals give birth to live young that are small and helpless. Producing milk to feed them allows them to develop more slowly and spend time with the adults as they grow up, learning the skills they need to survive. Regulating their own body temperature and having hair of various thicknesses for protection has also allowed mammals to live in almost every habitat on Earth.

Mammals at the Plumpton Park Zoo

The zoo is home to: Alpaca, American Bison, African Crested Porcupine, an African Serval, Arctic Foxes, Bactarin Camels, Bengal Tiger, a Binturong, Black Backed Jackals, American Black Bear, a Bobcat, Eurpean Brown Bear, Fallow Deer, a Giraffe, LLama, Pot Bellied Pigs, Prairie Dogs, Pygmy Goats, Reeves Muntjac, Sheep, Siamang Apes, Sicillian Donkeys, a Silver Fox, Timber Wolves, an African Watusi, a White Bengal Tiger, a White Faced Capuchin Monkey and a pair of Zebra.
